Thought For the Week Beginning 23rd March 2026
At a recent Church Council, I suggested that I might offer a weekly ‘thought for the week,’ a short reflection, hoping that it might be helpful in the journey of faith. Here goes…
Today is my youngest daughter Debbie’s birthday. As we don’t know the exact date Mitzi, the house-cat, was born, with a little bit of detective work on the part of Debbie we have deduced that it was probably March; so yes it is Mitzi’s birthday as well, and yes she also has a birthday present being delivered later today – a new cat bed!
When I was ‘knee-high to a grasshopper’ we used to sing a little song in Junior Church, or Sunday School as it was known then, whenever it was anyone’s birthday.
It went like this:
Comes a birthday once again
Happy day, oh happy day
Through the sunshine, through the rain
God has brought us on our way.
At the heart of that little song is the truth that another year has passed, and God has brought us through. I believe that to be true, that no matter what this year has seen … here we are still walking with God by our side.
Of course, in Christian terms that comes through the presence of Jesus in our lives.

O Jesus, I have promised to serve you to the end;
Lord, be for ever near me, my master and my friend;
I shall not fear the battle if you are by my side,
nor wander from the pathway if you will be my guide.
Whether or not it is your birthday you can ponder on the fact that each passing year you can walk with Jesus.
