Tickhill Methodist Church

Pause for thought Monday the 1st of June 2026

Today was ‘payday’ … or to use Church speak ‘stipend day’ … and so for a time the bank balance is a bit fuller; note that I say for a time, as towards the end of June we will be looking for the 1st of July with a sense of anticipation!

Thankfully, unlike in times past, we are not ‘living from hand to mouth’. There were times when we were much younger that pay day could not come soon enough!

It is all about resources – obviously in this instance financial resources; however, there are other resources in life that need a regular ‘top up’.

Think of energy – so many times in this fast-paced world I hear people saying, I am so lacking in energy; and tied to this perhaps enthusiasm – people can say “I have lost enthusiasm for such and such a thing!”

Sometimes we lose a sense of joy, or perhaps a sense of purpose … and so I could go on…

However, what about this amazing promise in Scripture …

Philippians 4:19 – "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

One of my favourite modern translations ‘The Message’ puts it like this:

You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus.

Perhaps the secret is turning to God when we feel we are running on empty. Turning to God for a ‘top up’.

It’s a thought

love,

REVD JOHN.
